After her daughter-in-law learned she was unable to bear a kid, the 56-year-old mother disclosed she is expecting her own son’s child.
Following the hysterectomy of her daughter-in-law, Nancy Hauck of St. George, Utah, opted to act as a surrogate for her son Jeff Hauck, 32, and his wife Cambria, 30, who were unable to conceive naturally.
She hesitantly offered to be the couple’s surrogate because she knew her son enjoyed becoming a father but didn’t think it would be possible given her advanced age.
Given how much her son Jess and daughter-in-law Cambria had experienced with infertility, Nancy decided she wanted to be a surrogate for them.
Prior to the birth of Vera and Ayva, now three years old twins, the parents underwent six years of IVF treatment. After that, they had another set of twins, Diseal and Luka, who are now 11 months old. However, the birth was difficult, necessitating a hysterectomy for Cambria, preventing her from carrying any further children.
But the couple still had other frozen embryos in storage that they hoped to use for in vitro fertilisation.
They’ve struggled with infertility a lot, but Nancy claimed they had seven embryos to use in IVF treatments and made the decision to do so.
“Cambria could no longer carry her own children. And I just had a feeling a few months after that I should offer to do it.
‘I left the choice up to Jeff and Cambria,’ Nancy said.
The examination revealed that Nancy was a viable carrier, but it was probably necessary to take action right away before she entered menopause.
‘They’d just had their twins, so it was very quick after to have another baby.
‘But they decided to go for it.’
With the assistance of her husband and Jeff’s father, Jason, an ophthalmologist who is 59 years old, Nancy began her hormone therapy in January 2022. She injected herself daily for a period of 12 weeks.
A month later, the fertilised foetus was subsequently put into her uterus.
When it worked, they were all “over the moon.”
‘It was a bit scary as it had been 26 years since I’d had a baby,’ Nancy said.
‘I had a feeling just before the blood test that it had worked, and I did a test and it was positive.
‘They were over the moon when we found out for certain I was pregnant.’
Nancy claimed that other than having a little more illness, this pregnancy has been identical to her previous ones.
She also mentioned that although her other kids were first frightened for her, they have since warmed up to the notion.
She added: ‘This has all been a big leap of faith. It’s remarkable and a beautiful thing to do. I think this is quite a rare thing to do.
‘I never planned for it, but I am so glad I chose to carry my son’s baby.’
‘She is sacrificing so much for us, and our family and we just feel so grateful. It has been so miraculous and beautiful to watch Nancy carry our sweet baby girl.
Cambria has been able to accompany Nancy to all of her appointments, and the family was overjoyed to learn that a daughter is due in May 2022.
It is extremely humbling that Nancy is doing this for us, said Cambria, the owner of a dancing business.
‘She has been nothing short of amazing and filled with so much light and grace.
‘They say pregnancy comes with a glow, but Nancy’s is a full-on lighthouse.’
