Unexpectedly, Najam Sethi withdrew his name from consideration to lead the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB), claiming he did not want to become a “bone of contention” between PM Shehbaz Sharif and Asif Zardari.
The current chairman of the PCB Management Committee stressed on Tuesday via his Twitter account the need to prevent any instability at PCB and his decision not to run for chairman of PCB. He wished everyone else involved luck as he concluded the tweet.
Additionally, Zaka Ashraf has been proposed by Ehsan Ur Rehman Mazari, the Federal Minister for Inter-provincial Coordination (IPC), as the PCB chairman in the near future. The Pakistan Peoples Party (PPP) is another party that backs Zaka Ashraf.
According to Ehsan Mazari, Najam Sethi was chosen to conduct the elections at the request of Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif.
Salaam everyone! I don’t want to be a bone of contention between Asif Zardari and Shehbaz Sharif. Such instability and uncertainty is not good for PCB. Under the circumstances I am not a candidate for Chairmanship of PCB. Good luck to all stakeholders.
