In the past, moon sightings in Pakistan have generated a lot of debate and amusement. However, the Pakistani government has put forth a bill that would punish false reports of moon sightings with three years in prison or a fine of Rs. 50,000.
According to the proposed legislation, those who conduct moon-sighting without authorization will be fined Rs 50,000, and those who give false testimony risk a 3-year prison sentence or a sizable fine. The bill addresses concerns about the veracity of moon sightings during significant occasions, particularly the holy month of Ramadan and the Eid religious festivals.
The choice was crucial because people had previously been worried about false reporting.
