In a suspected murder-suicide, a man killed two research scientists before leaving a mother of five dead, according to the police.
On October 1, Camila Behrensen, 24, and Pablo Guzman-Palma, 25, were discovered dead in their apartment in Kansas City, Missouri.
Kevin Moore, 42, was named as the main suspect by Jackson County prosecutors, who asserted that he deliberately set fire to their home.
Using surveillance videos, computer and cell phone data, and other sources, police were able to make the connection.
Moore and Misty Brockman, a 40-year-old mother of five, were discovered shot to death in a parked automobile on October 16.
According to a GoFundMe website, friends claimed that Brockman was the mom of five young boys.
Drivers flagged the police after spotting a car in the woods, prompting officers to race to the area.
The victims, according to the police, “suffer from apparent trauma.”
Detectives have not disclosed a motive because their inquiries are still ongoing.
Few days had passed since the bodies of Behrensen and Guzman-Palma were discovered.
At the Stowers Institute for Medical Research, there were researchers named Behrensen from Argentina and Guzman-Palma from Chile.
According to a report from Kansas City Fire Department officials, the fire was started to cover up a crime.
“What it implies to me is that these folks were murdered and that whoever did it, set this fire to try to cover it up,” former Johnson County prosecutor Paul Morrison told KSHB.
Morrison revealed that starting a fire to cover up a crime isn’t “unusual”.
He added: “Usually, it doesn’t work because it’s fairly commonly done in homicide scenes and investigators are usually pretty good at determining the cause of death.”
An Amazon Alexa device was discovered in the apartment, according to the police.
According to KSHB, investigators believed it might have recorded talks between Moore and the study experts before to their deaths.
After the two scientists passed away, tributes were given to them.
She had been “looking forward to living on her own in a distant nation,” according to Behrensen’s coworkers.
A “kind person,” Palma is a researcher who focuses on spinal cord regeneration.
The two were described as “bright, potential scientists” by Stowers Institute researchers.
The Stowers Institute community is grieved by the passing of two outstanding predoctoral researchers, according to the institution.
