The recent appointment of former South African fast bowler Morne Morkel as the national team’s bowling coach for the upcoming two-match Test series against Sri Lanka was made public by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). Morkel has signed a six-month contract with the group.
Over the course of a successful 11-year international career, he claimed 309 wickets in 86 Tests, 188 in 117 ODIs, and 47 in 44 T20 Internationals. In Lahore in September 2017, he played for the World XI against Pakistan in his final international game.
The PCB also revealed the 16-person squad for the Test series, which features the return of fast bowler Shaheen Afridi, along with Morkel’s appointment.
The team features all-rounder Aamir Jamal and rookie batsman Mohammad Huraira, making it Pakistan’s first assignment in the third season of the ICC World Test Championship.
Prior to departing for Sri Lanka on July 9, the Pakistani team will assemble in Karachi on July 3 for a training camp. In the near future, Sri Lanka Cricket will release the tour’s full schedule. In July 2022, Pakistan and Sri Lanka played their final Test series, which resulted in a 1-1 tie.
