After Montana Governor Greg Jane Forte signed a law banning the Chinese app TikTok, Montana became the first state in the country to do so.
The TikTok app will no longer be available in Montana’s Google Play and Apple App Stores, according to US media reports. Beginning on January 1, 2024, the prohibition will be in place.
According to Montana’s Republican governor, Greg Jean Forte, “this bill will further advance our shared priority of protecting Montana’s citizens from the Chinese Communist Party’s surveillance.”
TikTok’s owner company, ‘ByteDance,’ on the other hand, stated in a statement that this bill violates the First Amendment rights of the people of Montana by illegally prohibiting TikTok. The company stated that it would defend its customers’ rights both inside and outside of Montana.
