Mohammad Rizwan, the Pakistani wicket-keeper batter, was chosen as the International Cricket Council’s (ICC) Player of the Month for September 2022 as a result of his recent outstanding achievements.

According to an ICC news release, Rizwan, the top T20I batter in the world, defeated competition from young Australian all-rounder Cameron Green and legendary Indian spinner Axar Patel, who both had months to remember.

“Rizwan was in stunning form in September, churning out some sizzling performances in T20Is. The No 1 T20I batter in the MRF Tyres ICC Men’s Player Rankings continued his domination in the shortest format of the game and put his name on the shortlist for the Player of the Month for September,” it read.

On winning the award, an elated Rizwan said: “I would like to thank Almighty Allah and express my heartfelt delight to all that enabled me to achieve this award.

“I want to give my high appreciation to all my teammates as they made things easy for me. These achievements boost your confidence. I am happy with my performance and I would like to take this momentum forward in Australia.”

The people in Pakistan who are impacted by floods and climate change, he continued, are the ones to whom he would like to devote this honour.

“Hopefully this will bring smiles on their faces,” ICC quoted him as saying.

In the ten games Rizwan played last month, the ICC reported that he scored seven fifty-pluses.

He started the month off with two 70+ scores in the Asia Cup matches against India and Hong Kong. He concluded the competition with yet another fifty and was the player who scored the most runs, but Pakistan failed to cross the finish line.

Rizwan amassed four scores of 60+ in the first five T20Is of the seven-match series against England, assisting his team in taking a 3-2 lead. He nevertheless finished the series with the most runs, 316, at an average of 63.20 while going at 138.60, despite playing one fewer game.
