In the current season of the HBL Pakistan Super League, Lahore Qalandars skipper Shaheen Afridi has been making various errors that former Pakistan cricketer Shahid Afridi has called out.
On Sunday against the Karachi Kings, Shaheen bowled four overs and let up 39 runs while only taking one wicket. Their team was defeated by their bitter rivals by a score of 67 runs.
The former cricketer believes that the left-arm pacer needs to use the bowling crease to his advantage.
“I have been observing him and also had a chat with him. I think he is bowling too far away from the stumps. If you bowl from far away, it is a very big thing to bring the ball back in from there. It is not very easy,” Shahid said on a local TV channel.
“I think he needs to make better use of the crease. He needs to bowl from close to the stumps. As we talk about Wasim Akram, he used to bring the bowl back in by bowling from close to the stumps,” he added.
Shaheen has to review earlier films of his bowling, Shahid added, in order to correct his errors.
He was pricey during the death overs because he was trying too hard. He added that he was trying to bowl too many Yorkers, which turned into full tosses and caused him to take sixes.
“He should review his videos and fix his errors on his own. He must recall the steps from the period in which he was succeeding,” the expert said.
