Microsoft Paint will be the newest app to join the AI craze that has gripped the tech industry.
Microsoft is actively looking into ways to include AI-driven functionalities in the Windows 11 version of the app, according to a report by Windows Central. These improvements might include features like the ability to create a canvas from a given text prompt.
Windows Central has been informed by insiders with knowledge of the situation that the AI component will make use of the same technology that powers Bing’s Image Creator. This particular tool has the ability to create an image solely from a description that is provided.
The report from Windows Central also includes an internal mock-up of what the new AI integration might resemble.
There is a button marked “Magic Paint,” and a sidebar that has an input field for an image description, and a button for creating images is present. Naturally, the created image can then be transferred to your canvas, allowing for alterations. To discuss the process in detail, though, would be premature.
In addition to Paint, Microsoft also intends to add AI functionality to other programs like Photos, the Camera app, and the Snipping Tool. This might entail adding a novel feature to Photos that makes it possible to recognize people or objects in pictures. Once they have been identified, cutting and pasting them into different places may be easier.
Microsoft is reportedly thinking about incorporating optical character recognition (OCR) technology into both the Snipping Tool and the Camera app. Each app may be given the ability to recognize text in screenshots or photos if OCR is added.
Although it’s still unclear whether Microsoft will eventually roll out these improvements, the possibility is hardly surprising given the vast array of AI tools the company has unveiled over the past year.
