A FOOTBALLER passed away after collapsing on the field during a game.
On Saturday, Michael Palmer, 23, collapsed while playing for Crowland Town FC.
He was rushed to hospital but never regained consciousness.
His club wrote on social media: “As some of you may already be aware Crowland Town FC tragically lost one of our family members yesterday playing the game he loved.
“Our player Michael Palmer tragically collapsed during the game and never regained consciousness.
“He was the most kind, caring person and a passionate Manchester Utd fan and always strived to achieve the best he could and will be greatly missed by all at the club and the local football community.”
The statement added: “A huge thank you to Leverington FC players and staff for their help and respect.
“Our thoughts are with Michael’s family and friends at this sad time.
The referee of Saturday’s game also paid tribute to the football lover.
He said: “My thoughts and prayers go to Michael’s family and friends.
“The beautiful game we all love lost a special young man yesterday and he will never be forgotten. Nobody should ever not come home from a football game.
“I would like to add the conduct of both teams players is something you should both be proud of. Everyone did everything they could to try and help Michael.
“My thoughts are with everyone connected or knew Michael.”
“Again we would like to thank [Leverington FC] for everything they done, our upmost respect goes to all them that were there.
The club play in the Peterborough & District Football League.
