A BEAUTY queen died after jumping from her sixth-floor flat’s balcony to escape a fire.
Mayara Nito, 27, also known as Maya, was taken to a nearby hospital and died as a result of her injuries.
Her 23-year-old brother was also hospitalised with smoke inhalation after the fire in Brazil and is said to be in stable condition.
He found out about her tragic death 24 hours after the fire.

On March 25, a fire broke out in the affluent neighbourhood of Itaim Bibi in So Paulo.
According to local media reports, the fire started at 10.40 a.m. and quickly spread throughout the apartment.
Maya’s mum Geraldina Kelly da Silva Angelo, 46, told Metropoles: “The fire took over everything. She was afraid to go through the fire.”
Paying tribute to her daughter, Geraldina said: “She was born to shine.
“She was a star, a strong warrior, determined. Everything she did was with love”
According to reports, Maya’s parents flew from Para State to So Paulo to personally inform her brother of her death.
“The love of my life is now a star in the sky,” said the model’s father, César Nito.
“I love you forever my daughter. As grandma used to say, ‘my beautiful baby’.”
In January, Maya was crowned Miss Serto Paraibano.
The model, from Campina Grande, Para State, had been competing in beauty pageants since 2019 and had won nine titles.
She moved to So Paulo to work as a model and encouraged her brother to join her and continue his studies in the city.
Her father stated that she would be buried in Joo Pessoa, Para State.
The investigation into what caused the fire is still ongoing.
To fight the fire, the fire department dispatched 14 engines and 40 firefighters to the apartment complex.
Fire brigade spokesperson Captain Felipe Félis dos Santos said: “It started inside.
“We have no information about the cause yet, however it did not spread to other apartments.”
