Maya Humeau a young climber tragically fell 100 feet to her death days after two other climbers perished on a nearby mountain.
The treacherous routes in the perilous Colorado Rockies have claimed the lives of three climbers this month, including 22-year-old Maya Humeau.
According to Clear Creek County authorities, the Boulder woman died after taking the deadly fall at the Black Wall climbing location north of Mount Evans at 10am on Tuesday.
After seeing the incident, a male climber who was with Humeau dialled 911, according to CBS News.
The site was attended by the Alpine Rescue Team, Clear Creek cops, and Flight For Colorado. When emergency personnel arrived, Humeau had already passed away as a result of her wounds, according to the sheriff’s office.
According to Mountain Project, the “long, committing” routes on the Black Wall are best suited for seasoned climbers.
Just a few days prior, another climber perished after falling to his death from a nearby Colorado peak.
On September 7, a hiker named Justin Seagren was murdered after falling several hundred feet while descending from Blanca Peak.
The Sangre de Cristo mountain range in southern Colorado contains the Blanca Peak.
And days prior to this incident, another skilled climber passed away on Capitol Peak in the Aspen area in front of frightened hikers.
“Capitol Peak is considered one of Colorado’s most difficult mountains to climb with extreme exposure and loose, crumbling rock,” officials said.
On Saturday just before 8 am, a witness saw the Denver woman collapse and dialled 911.
The victim, he claimed, was attempting to hold onto a rock when it broke way, sending her tumbling down the mountain.
According to police, she fell “from the trail that connects the knife edge to the peak of Capitol Peak down to Pierre Lakes Basin.”
The Elk Mountains, a tall, rough area in the Rocky Mountains, are dangerous, officials advised hikers.
She fell “from the route that connects the knife edge to the Capitol Peak summit down to Pierre Lakes Basin,” cops said.
Officials reminded hikers of the dangers of the Elk Mountains, the high rugged range in the Rocky Mountains.
“The Elk Mountains are treacherous and that the loose, rotting terrain can lead to unstable conditions that can cause serious injuries or death,” the sheriff’s office and rescue team said.
Before identifying the victim, authorities waited to inform the family.
