A guy who was brutally murdered in his own house has had his groomsman charged with murder.
On Thursday of last week, Matthew Berry, 37, was discovered dead at his Mount Tamborine, Australia, house by his ex-partner.
His childhood friend Daniel Robert McJannett has now been accused of murder by the police.
According to the Courier Mail, police will claim that McJannett killed Berry, a father of two, with a gym weight bar.
According to court records, McJannett and Mr. Berry had been friends since they were eight years old, and McJannett served as Berry’s groomsman during his wedding in 2021.
Additionally, McJannett is accused of having a sizable quantity of marijuana that was taken from Mr. Berry’s house.
According to the police, they have spoken to witnesses who have mentioned Berry’s involvement in the cannabis trade.
Police claim that Berry’s phone was found broken, but they were still able to retrieve CCTV footage from it that showed McJannett entering the house the afternoon of the murder.
McJannett failed to appear in court, and his attorney did not request bail.
The case was postponed to next Wednesday at Beenleigh Magistrates Court.
Detective Inspector Chris Knight, of the Logan CIB, stated on Thursday: “The victim in this incident lost his life as a result of violence.
“To say it (the scene) was confronting is to be quite honest an understatement.
“We’re not looking for anybody else (over the alleged murder) at this stage.”
