A MAN was discovered dead in his bed after going to bed with a cough.
Marius Timofte, 33, was tragically discovered by a neighbour while they were breaking down the front door of his Edinburgh home.
On Saturday night, the delivery driver called his mother to say he was feeling ill and had a fever.
Marius then took some medication and went to bed, but he never awoke.
“His mum had phoned him in the morning to check how he was but got no response, she was instantly worried and contacted one of our friends here to go and check,” close friend Stefana told EdinburghLive.
“When Valentino, our friend, knocked on the door and got no response he started to bang on the door and try to break it down.
“The neighbours heard what was going on and came to help.”
Marius’ neighbour was a nurse, and she administered CPR.
Unfortunately, she was unable to save him.
“His mother, Dalilia, lives in Italy and is flying into Edinburgh tonight; we will meet her at the airport,” Stefana added.
“They were so close and told each other everything, he was her only son so she is absolutely heartbroken.”
A Police Scotland spokesperson said: “Around 1.10pm on Sunday, 12 March, 2023, police were called to the Alnwickhill Terrace area of Edinburgh, following the sudden death of a 33-year-old man.
“There were no suspicious circumstances and a report was submitted to the Procurator Fiscal.”
