A DJ was reportedly shot dead by an enraged partygoer after the DJ declined to play the song he requested in the club. In Pirapetinga, Brazil, José Mario Duarte, 41, was fatally shot shortly after completing his set in the early morning at a busy neighborhood bar.
At a party on Sunday, the musician known as Mario DJ was in charge of the music as large groups of partygoers danced the night away. Inviting his friends to Bar do Branco, he wrote in the Instagram post that he would be “playing only the best.”
However, when José played his final song and a group of men started bugging him to play more, not everyone was ready for the party to end. When the DJ refused their song request after being pestered by them to play another song, tensions quickly erupted.
Witnesses described how the gang started to argue with the upcoming artist before he eventually left the venue to go home.
At least two of the men followed him as he returned to his Santo Antonio de Padua property before ambushing the DJ at night.
José was reportedly taken to a remote area of Alto do Morro by the thugs after being horrifyingly dragged from his home at gunpoint.
Following the music row, he was then fatally shot. Later, other partygoers told police about one of the suspects they had seen arguing with the DJ at the party.
They informed the police that the man had threatened to kill them if they reported him.
The suspect attempted to flee in the direction of Minas, but Estrela Dalva police caught up with him.
At the same address, one of his friends who was hiding out was also apprehended.
A third man was later detained in connection with the murder at an undisclosed location, according to a police announcement.
The inquiry is ongoing.
