As she got ready to go to the US Open, Maria Sharapova worked up a sweat in the gym.
Flushing Meadows was the site of the 2006 victory for the five-time grand slam champion, who retired in 2020.
She has put her racquet away and is getting ready to return to the competition.
Sharapova, who is now 36, uploaded a photo of herself working out in the gym while sporting a grey top and black shorts.
She titled it “Pre New York.”
The formerly favored tennis player then uttered the phrase “it’s tough” as she recorded a brief workout video.
“Strength work doesn’t come easy to me, but it’s important,” continued Sharapova.
The Russian displayed a green salad in a different image.
She stated, “Cannot promise nyc will look this healthy.”
Sharapova competed in her last match at the 2020 Australian Open, where she was defeated by Donna Vekic 6-3, 6-4 in the opening round.
In her final US Open appearance, Serena Williams soundly defeated her 6-1, 6-1 on Arthur Ashe Stadium in the opening round.
Sharapova began dating British entrepreneur Alexander Gilkes in 2018, and the two got engaged in 2019.
She gave birth to her first son in July of last year.
