Ibrahim Yücel, a Turkish man, built a circular cage-like structure around his head in 2013 as an unconventional method of quitting smoking.
According to reports, Yücel, a resident of the town of Kütahya, reportedly took this drastic action after his father passed away from lung cancer brought on by the same habit. Yücel struggled to kick the habit on his own after smoking heavily for more than 20 years.
He built the helmet-like structure out of 130 feet of copper wire, locked himself inside, and gave his family the keys. Small meals and water sips through the cage, which forbade smoking, were all that kept Yücel alive.
His wife stood by him the entire time. It is unknown if using this technique enabled Yücel to permanently give up smoking.
