According to Mississippi authorities, a babysitter has been detained in connection with the death of a 2-year-old kid.
The Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office reports that Makallie Durham, 23, is accused of capital murder and felony child abuse.
According to WMC, deputies were summoned to a home on County Road 380 in Corinth on Tuesday night when an 11-month-old girl and a 2-year-old boy were discovered injured.
According to the sheriff’s office, both kids were brought to Memphis, Tennessee’s Le Bonheur Children’s Hospital. But the boy passed away, and the girl stayed in the hospital.
The two kids were discovered to be in the care of Durham, a babysitter who was later identified by investigators.
According to deputies, Durham was wanted in Corinth on a misdemeanour warrant.
The specifics of what happened before the child’s death that evening weren’t immediately disclosed by the sheriff’s office.
When the detectives arrived at the scene, they learned about Durham. She was brought into jail by deputies after it was discovered that she had a misdemeanour warrant out for her arrest, according to ASCO. Durham was first held in the Alcorn County Jail throughout the inquiry, but after the 2-year-death, old’s she was charged and is now being held there while she awaits her first court appearance. However, the circumstances behind the boy’s death are unclear. According to the Alcorn County Sheriff’s Office, she has also been charged with felony child abuse for abusing the 11-month-old girl in addition to being charged with the boy’s murder.
