According to reliable sources, Major General (Retd) Hafeez Ur Rehman has been appointed by the federal government as a Member (Administration) of the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA), and he is also anticipated to be promoted and named chairman of the Authority.
According to sources, Rehman’s appointment as Member (Administration) received approval from the Federal Cabinet, which is presided over by Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif.
On the recommendation of the Selection Committee, which was chaired by the Federal Minister for Defense Khawaja Asif, approval was requested through a summary from the Federal Cabinet.
The top candidate on the list of the three suggested applicants for the position was Dr. Muhammad Amir Malik; however, he withdrew his application after expressing disinterest in the position.
The Islamabad High Court (IHC) had previously ordered the federation not to move forward with any recruitment efforts related to the contested advertisement until the next date of hearing and stayed the appointment of Member (Administration).
Rehman was appointed Member (Administration) by the federal cabinet after the IHC lifted the stay on Wednesday. The petition might nonetheless go forward normally.
The process to appoint a new Member, or Member (Administration), which would bring the total number of Members to four, was started by the federal government last month.
PTA is made up of three members: Technical Members, Finance Members, and Compliance & Enforcement Members, and Member Technical typically serves as Chairman. The number will now be four Members, as the government has decided.
On the other hand, the Cabinet Division was unable to begin the scrutiny of the applicants for the position of Member (Technical) until several months had passed since the advertisement.
The shortlisting process will begin following the scrutiny of candidates for Member (Technical), according to the officials of the cabinet division. Officials remained mum regarding the timing of the Member (Technical) appointment process.
