This morning, a former LaLiga football player, just 51, passed away.
Between 1989 and 2000, Luis Marquez played for Real Betis for 11 years before making brief appearances for Real Valladolid, Real Pontevedra, and Real Jaen.
After a cancer fight, he passed away.
Seville-born Marquez was a standout as a child and earned the moniker Schuster for his physical and technical similarities to German midfielder Bernd.
In the 1990s, he played in the Uefa Cup and was a regular starter for Betis, helping them return to the first flight of Spanish football.
Marquez’s amazing strike against Atletico Madrid in 1994–1995—a breathtaking volley from a corner—is fondly recalled.
Numerous tributes were paid to the renowned athlete, a significant figure in Betis’ illustrious past.
Real Betis said: “Very sad news for the whole Green and White family. Former player Luis Márquez has passed away this morning.
