After entering a lavatory at an elementary school in southern California and attempting to abuse a girl, police say a registered sex offender was apprehended on Friday.
32-year-old Riverside resident Logan Nighswonger is being held without bond at this time.
At McAuliffe Elementary School, a male was reported to have scaled the fence and entered the girls’ restroom at 12:30 on Friday. A campus supervisor heard a female crying inside the restroom as Nighswonger exited and saw her. Before getting in a car and leaving, the campus supervisor chased Nighswonger as he scaled several fences.
The on-campus supervisor knew exactly what Nighswonger’s automobile looked like. Nighswonger was apprehended when police were able to track the car to a company in Orange County, according to a news release.
In addition to being a registered sex offender on school property, Nighswonger was arrested and taken to the Robert Presley Detention Center for attempted sex acts with a kid under the age of 10.

“We are grateful to our law enforcement partners for their swift action in apprehending and removing this threat to our society,” Alvord Unified School District Superintendent Allan Mucerino stated. “Children should never experience a situation such as this, and it deeply saddens me that this incident occurred.”
