To increase road safety, the Lahore High Court (LHC) imposed a fine of Rs. 5,000 on motorcyclists who do not wear helmets. The court has chosen to get involved because of the authorities’ subpar performance.
Following the hearing of petitions regarding the city’s smog, Justice Shahid Karim made this decision. During the hearing, he instructed the traffic police to enforce strict helmet regulations.
The court announced that it would issue a formal order enforcing these rules. The traffic wardens were also criticized for not carrying out their responsibilities properly.
On Main Boulevard in Gulberg, the traffic police and the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) recently hosted a cycling event. The city traffic wardens were reprimanded by the court for impeding traffic.
The court proposed an automatic fine system for non-compliant riders and a ten-day advertising campaign to promote helmet use.
The LHC was also upset about the drainage under the CBD underpass. The court asked the LDA Chief Engineer to explain why the underpass’s drainage was so bad.
