A SEVEN-year-old girl was playing outside a hotel when she was killed by a 440-pound marble monument.
The heavy object struck Italian national Lavinia Trematerra on Friday night in the courtyard of a hotel in Munich, Germany.
Three onlookers at the scene heard her screams and rushed to help.
Before contacting the emergency services, they managed to remove Lavinia from the 200 kilogramme unfixed statue.
Although paramedics arrived quickly, she was critically hurt and tragically passed away two hours later in the hospital, according to Sky News.
The statue has been standing atop its pedestal for about 20 years, and investigations are underway to determine what caused the catastrophe.
Prior to the catastrophe, Lavinia’s family was in Italy, where both of her parents were practising law.
Our life has altered, said Michele Trematerra, the grieving father.
A police statement from Munich read: “A youngster from Italy who was on vacation with her parents was in a hotel patio in Munich on Friday, August 26, 2022, at about 7.30 p.m.
