In what is being treated as a murder-suicide, a TEACHER and her two young children were found shot dead in their house.
On Wednesday afternoon, the three dead were found in a South Carolina home after police were called to check on the wellbeing of the residents.
The Horry County Coroner’s Office informed regional news source WMBF that Laura Moberley, 42, and her two children, Eric, 11, and Emily, 8, were discovered dead with gunshot wounds when officers arrived.
The three were reportedly shot sometime between Wednesday morning and six in the morning, according to the coroner’s office.
One of the three deceased people was identified as a suspect in a police report that News13 was able to obtain, while the other two were victims.
The South Carolina Law Enforcement Division Child Fatality Unit, Horry County Fire Rescue, Horry County Coroner’s Office, and Horry County Police Department are all still looking into the circumstances behind the fatalities.
At this point, the public is not thought to be in danger, nevertheless.
2018 saw Laura’s employment by Horry County Schools. She was a Reading Loss Interventionist at Carolina Forest Elementary School, according to The Sun News.
According to the district, Eric attended Ten Oaks Middle School while Emily went to the institution where her mother was an employee.
On August 15, Horry County Schools’ new academic year’s first day of classes was held.
The “tragic occurrence” was acknowledged in a statement the school district issued on Thursday morning.
“We are at a loss for words after learning of the tragic incident that affected an entire family with ties to Horry County Schools.
“We lift our strongest prayers for the Moberley family and for everyone who knew them. We encourage our community to keep our students and staff in their thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.
“Our district has a team of counselors made up of professionals trained to help with the needs of students, parents, and school personnel at difficult times such as this.
“Our community is hurting today, and that is undeniable,” the statement reads.
“We ask that you be kind to one another — you may not know who has been impacted by this tragedy.”
More information on the 42-year-old mother of two is learned while the inquiry into the deaths is ongoing.
Before she started working as a full-time teacher, Laura Moberley designed monogrammed goods and did needlework, according to a Facebook post on her page.
“I would adore returning to needlework full-time and travelling to exhibits once more. It was incredible! “Laura made a remark to somebody.
Another person asked Laura how her first year of teaching was.
She responded: “it was wonderful!”
