The surfing world is in mourning after an SURF photographer documented his last moments on the water before passing away suddenly from a heart attack.
Respected surf photographer Larry Hynes revolutionised the way the sport is documented.
Hynes recorded a video of himself surfing and having fun just before he died.
According to KHON2, Hynes passed away on that day in the beach’s parking lot where he had slumped following a heart attack.
The news source asserts that in order to come and retrieve Hynes’ surfboard and things, lifeguards had to phone Hynes’ family.
The GoPro that captured Hynes’ dying moments was one of these products.
“Sharing the tragic news that we lost a member of our team, Larry Haynes,” wrote Erik Logan, CEO of World Surf League.
“Many of our fans might not know him, but you know his work.
Larry was constantly in the water, riding a ski, and screaming obscenities at the surfers on every wave.
In the pictures that have been released, Hynes is pictured with a number of top-tier surfers who have all achieved success at competitions.
Hynes was acknowledged as one of the top players in the industry by renowned surf photographer Rob Gilley.
“To me, Larry is a precious character in the surf world and a living legend,” said Gilley per Surf News Network.
“I have seen him shooting wide-angle in-water film at giant closed-out Off The Wall, Backdoor, Maverick’s, Teahupoo, and Waimea.
“Before GoPro existed, Larry used to surf with a 10-pound camera attached to his head—a camera that would break your neck if the lip hit you unexpectedly.”
Hynes passed away on February, 9th, after surfing Laniakea, a famous surf spot in Honolulu.
