An inquest heard today that a young girl who died while attending a party at a water park drowned in a designated swimming area.
In August of last year, Kyra Hill, 11, ran into trouble at Liquid Leisure Park in Datchet, Berkshire.
Senior coroner Heidi Connor informed Kyra’s family today that a post-mortem determined that she drowned to death.
Just two weeks before turning 12, she expressed her “completely heartfelt condolences” at the child’s passing.
“We must stand back and allow other investigations to be carried out first,” the coroner advised Kyra’s family.
Leonard Hill and Heather Parker, Kyra’s parents, attended the hearing at Berkshire Coroner’s Court.
They were informed that after a full inquest has been conducted, they will be able to talk more about Kyra’s life besides the “very difficult, traumatic evidence.”
In order to allow for a police investigation, Ms. Connor postponed the proceedings.
On August 6 of last year, just before 4 o’clock, emergency personnel were called to the park.
An hour and fifteen minutes later, Kyra was discovered in the swimming area.
She was taken urgently to the hospital, but sadly, she couldn’t be saved and was soon pronounced dead.
After the tragedy, the waterpark was shut down for a few weeks, but in October of last year, permission was granted for it to reopen for some events.
Video of the tragedy has been compared by Kyra’s father to a “horror movie” in the past.
“I’ve replayed the CCTV in my head every day and every night,” he claimed. It is similar to watching a scary movie. On a hospital bed, I replay my kid every day and every night.
Every day and every night, “I replay my child in the morgue, touching her cold, stiff body with fluids leaking from her nose.”
