ISLAMABAD: The Pakistan Metrological Department (PMD) has predicted a new round of rain starting tomorrow (Sunday) for the upper portions of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Sindh, Balochistan, and south Punjab could expect hot and muggy weather during the next three to four days, according to the Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMDweather )’s report.
According to the Met Office, the upper and central regions of the country are being penetrated by light monsoon currents from the Arabian Sea.
Forecasters predict rain, with a few isolated heavy falls, on Sunday and Monday in a number of KP districts, including Dir, Swat, Kohistan, Mansehra, Abbottabad, Haripur, Malakand, Bajaur, Peshawar, Mardan, Charsadda, Swabi, Nowshera, Kurram, Kohat, and Waziristan.
From now until Tuesday, rain with sporadic heavy downpours is also predicted for Kashmir, Gilgit-Baltistan, Islamabad, and a number of Punjabi districts, including Rawalpindi, Murree, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Lahore, Gujranwala, Gujrat, Sheikhupura, Mianwali, Khushab, Sargodha, Hafizabad, Mand
District officials have received a warning from the Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA) recommending them to take preventative measures due to the likelihood of severe rainfall.
During the predicted period, rainfall may cause landslides in Kashmir, hilly Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Galliyat, and Murree.
The PDMA has also instructed the authorities to make sure that the necessary equipment is available in the landslide-prone areas. Urban flooding and flooding from hill torrents are also possible.
The PDMA has encouraged travellers to exercise caution, adding that the authority’s emergency operations centre has been operational, according to D.G. PDMA.
