
The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) provincial caretaker government declined to grant the Transport Department’s request for the release of a delayed Rs. 800 million for the Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) Peshawar.
According to a national newspaper, the provincial government typically allots BRT Rs. 400 million per month, but the funds for May and June are still unpaid.
Saddaf Kamil, a spokesperson for TransPeshawar, said in a statement regarding the development that the Transport Department had spoken with the relevant departments regarding the lagging amount.
After the two months in question, the government has resumed its typical schedule for disbursements, according to Saddaf Kamil.
The Transport Department has contacted the finance department to request the release of the Rs. 800 million to pay the contractor debts, according to another BRT representative.
This communication was formalized with a letter from the provincial finance department to the transport department, requesting prompt attention to the issue.
