Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery, the sequel to the nearly three-year-old film Knives Out, has received its Netflix first look photographs. In addition, we now know when the movie will be released.
The first whodunnit story, which was published in 2019, follows Detective Benoit Blanc, portrayed by Daniel Craig, who investigated the enigmatic death of mystery novelist Harlan Thrombey while implicating each member of the author’s chaotic family.
The sequel, which will be released later this year, substitutes a tropical Greek resort for the Massachusetts home. A statement given to Decider describes Blanc’s return to the picture as he “travels to Greece to peel back the layers of a mystery featuring a new ensemble of colourful suspects.” When software tycoon Miles Bron, played by Edward Norton, invites his buddies to his private Greek island, things go wrong when one of them ends up murdered, leaving Blanc to crack the case.
Regarding the sequel’s unusual name, writer and director Rian Johnson revealed that it was influenced by a Beatles song of the same name.
“I’m always fishing for something fun that Blanc can grab onto as an overwrought metaphor that he can beat to death,” Johnson told Tudum. “This is all in plain sight from the very start. So, the idea of glass came to me, something that’s clear. I’ll be very honest. I literally got out my iPhone and searched my music library with the word ‘glass.’ There’s got to be some good glass songs. I was like, ‘Oh, is it a glass fortress? Is it a glass castle? Is it a glass man?’ The first thing that came up, because I’m a huge Beatles fan, is ‘Glass Onion.’”
