The Royal Institute of British Architects awarded the prize, one of the highest honors in the field. For her work on self-built, carbon-free homes for the homeless and her humanitarian efforts to help those affected by natural disasters and climate change, Prof. Lari was awarded the prize.
She is also credited with developing the Chulah Cookstove, an environmentally friendly alternative to traditional stoves that improves health outcomes and reduces pollution. The Heritage Foundation of Pakistan was co-founded by Prof. Lari, who has also built more than 50,000 environmentally friendly housing and shelter units for underserved communities.
She is the first Pakistani and only the second woman to ever receive the honor. The king personally approves the awarding of the medal, which is given to individuals who have made a significant contribution to architecture.
