In response to the discovery of a 40-year-old woman dead on a street close to a Rochdale school, COPS detained two people on suspicion of murder.
On July 17, at around 4.30 in the morning, police in Greater Manchester tragically discovered Kerry Newman close to Ashfield Valley Primary School on New Barn Lane.
A man, 48, and a woman, 52, have since been detained by Greater Manchester Police on murder suspicion. While the investigation is ongoing, they continue to be held in custody for additional questioning.
A police spokesperson said: “Further enquiries also suggests that Kerry was taken from an address in Freehold to New Barn Lane in Rochdale where she was subsequently found deceased, of which the cause of her death is unknown.”
The mother of two was a “loving daughter and mother of two boys, taken away from us too soon,” according to her mother and stepfather.
“Rest in peace, our beautiful girl; she is now in heaven with the angels.”
The investigation into Kerry’s tragic death is progressing quickly, and we want to make sure that justice is sought for Kerry and her loved ones, according to Detective Chief Inspector Rachel Smith of the GMP Major Incident Team.
“We are continuing to look into every avenue, and as a result of our efforts, two suspects have been taken into custody and are being questioned.
“We are still pleading with anyone who may have information about this incident to come forward.
“This includes any witnesses, anyone with information about the incident, and any video from a dashcam, cellphone, or CCTV that relates to this incident. Any information you have could help us get Kerry justice a little bit faster.
