Kelly Higgins a mother-of-four committed suicide because she was afraid of losing her children in a divorce dispute.
Kelly Higgins, 31, had said to her step-dad that “her life would not be worth living” if she couldn’t have children.
And she was having trouble when the children were cared for by her husband’s mother after Christmas the previous year.
After the death of her first child with her then-boyfriend William Higgins, she started to experience anxiety and sadness, according to Hull Live.
In December, she was discovered dead in her Bridlington, Yorkshire, home by family members. After beginning a new connection with a woman, she had ended her relationship with William.
Kelly was a wonderful lady who was completely devoted to her children, a family member testified before the coroner’s court. Simply said, we miss her in every way.
“She was caring and would care for everybody. She is a huge loss to everyone who knew her.”
Kelly’s step-dad added: “Kelly was a happy-go-lucky person but she and William were heavy drinkers which contributed to the breakdown of the marriage.”
Last Christmas, when he visited her mother to deliver the children’s gifts, he reported that she was cheerful but concerned about the kids being taken away.
According to Mr. Higgins, who was married to Kelly for 13 years, the marriage fell apart last year as a result of the affair.
He relocated to live with his mother while pursuing child custody.
In spite of his pleading with Kelly to seek an official diagnosis for depression, he said, she refused.
While Mr. Higgins was attempting to obtain custody of the kids, Kelly’s new partner claimed that others at work disapproved of the relationship.
Kelly wrote in one note: “I’m sorry. I do not see any way out. I am tired of fighting. I can’t cope and it hurts too much.”
“Please do one more thing and make sure my kids know how much I love them. I’m sorry for letting you down.”
