TWO women were arrested after allegedly stealing $876.26 in Walmart merchandise.

The alleged shoplifters obtained items without paying by using a self-checkout trick in which thieves placed a sticker of a cheaper item on a more expensive item, known as the “switcheroo.”

According to an arrest report obtained by Ocala-News from the Marion County Sheriff’s Office, Keaveona Natao’Peoples Beaucejour, 23, and Teeyana Rysha Mims, 20, were accused of stealing from a Walmart in Ocala, Florida by a loss prevention worker.

According to the employee, Beaucehour and Mims did not scan or pay for multiple items in their shopping cart while using self-service, which was captured on surveillance video.

Beaucehour and Mims were also accused of scanning some expensive items with stickers from lower-priced items, according to the worker.

Beaucejour and Mims both denied stealing goods from Walmart after being apprehended, resulting in a total loss of $876.26.

Mims told a constable that “it was possible that some items were scanned under a different bar code by accident,” according to the outlet.

The employee also accused Beaucejour and Mims of a previous theft on March 24.

The constable noticed that both of them were allegedly seen skipping over multiple items at self-checkout after reviewing surveillance footage from the incident.

According to the arrest report, a total of $165.42 in merchandise was stolen in the previous incident.

According to the outlet, Beaucejour and Mims have no prior criminal convictions.

The two are currently charged with felony grand theft and misdemeanour first-degree petit theft.

Organised retail crime is on the rise in major retail stores throughout the United States.

Walmart CEO Doug McMillon warned customers in December that retail crime could lead to store closures.

“There is a problem with theft. It’s higher than it has been in the past,” he told CNBC.

If the situation does not improve, “prices will be higher, and/or stores will close,” he said.
