Kaz Crossley, a Love Island star, was reportedly released from her prison cell in Dubai after being detained on Monday on suspicion of drug offences.
After being alerted to United Arab Emirates officials, who are purportedly looking into a video showing the Love Island star snorting a white substance in 2020, Kaz was detained at the Abu Dhabi airport while waiting for a trip to Thailand.
Kaz is scheduled to be released from prison after spending four days there, according to her attorneys.
“Kaz has fully cooperated with officials and is free to continue her journey,” the representatives said.
“Kaz was travelling through Abu Dhabi on her way to Thailand, where she was stopped by UAE police and taken in for questioning in relation to a matter that is not directly related to her but officials felt she could assist in their enquiries,” they told The Sun.
For a response to the reports, Mirror Online got in touch with a Kaz spokesman.
With Josh Denzel, with whom she later parted ways, Kaz placed third on Love Island in 2018. She will appear on Channel 5’s The Challenge.
The social media influencer and reality personality was en route to Thailand to participate in volunteer activities.
A source said: “She was looking forward to getting back to Thailand where she has been doing voluntary work and all of a sudden she is languishing in a Dubai jail.
“She had only stopped off in Abu Dhabi to catch a connecting flight but her name has obviously raised a red flag.”
The source claimed Kaz was “allowed to send one email and wasn’t even allowed to make a phone call”.
“She messaged one particular friend whose email she could remember and asked her to inform her family that she was OK but had been arrested for drugs offences. The arrest wasn’t because of anything she had on her. As far as we know it is all down to that video,” the source told The Sun.
The in question video footage, which depicts Kaz bending over a table with lines of a white material set out while wearing an orange dress, was captured during lockdown when influencers travelled to Dubai to avoid Covid restrictions in the UK.
The minimum sentence for a first offence under Dubai’s drug laws is three months in jail, and the punishment ranges from £4,559 (AED 20,000) to £22,799 for repeat offenders (AED 100,000).
