Nearly two weeks have passed since a 23-year-old care home worker died after falling from a nightclub fire escape.
On September 4, at around 2.55 am, Katie Davenport, 23, lost her footing and fell from the fire escape at Hey Amigos in Southport, Merseyside.
The incident resulted in a significant emergency services reaction, and Katie was transported quickly to Liverpool’s Walton Centre, a specialised hospital for neurology patients.
After 12 days of “as hard as she could” survival efforts, Katie was given end-of-life care and passed away on Saturday at the hospital.
She has now received praise from her sisters Lianne Clegg and Cassie Davenport for being a “caring” and “committed” sibling.
She was the most beautiful lady, according to Lianne, and everyone adored her. Nobody has ever made negative remarks about her.
She had a strong work ethic and cherished her position. She dedicated her all to her work and sacrificed everything to see that the inmates of the home were taken care of.
‘She was never bothered about drinking and clubbing. It’s destroyed us. Out of the three of us, she was the only one with her head screwed on.’
Tomorrow evening, Katie’s family—including her five sisters and brother—plans to do a balloon release at Princess Park in Southport. It was the last time she had seen Ellie and Cassie.
Lianne said: ‘That one night has destroyed our lives and taken her away from us. We’re trying to get as many people to gather on Princess Park tomorrow at 6pm as possible.
‘Bring a green balloon. Her care home are also releasing 100 balloons from the Promenade so we’re hoping to do it all at the same time.’
The family has appealed for donations to the Walton Centre ahead of her funeral on Friday, October 7.
Earlier this month, Hey Amigos released a statement in which they said: “In light of recent circumstances, we just want to convey that all of our thoughts are with the young girl, her family, and friends during this trying time.”
‘We hope everyone can understand that this has shaken all of us and we can’t comment or reply to messages about what’s happened. However we can say we’re doing everything we possibly can to help the police with whatever they need.’
