Following a power outage that affected the southern parts of the country on Thursday, Minister for Power Khurram Dastgir Khan promised that power will be restored throughout the nation by 8 o’clock.
The minister claimed during a press conference in Islamabad that the blackout was caused by the loss of power on two lines, which shut down the nuclear power plant in Karachi and the coal power plant in Thar.

A problem in two lines, he continued, is “not typical” and will be looked at.
The minister stated that out of 8,000MW, 5,000MW have been restored so far. According to him, power has been totally restored in Multan and Faislabad while it is still being restored in some districts of Karachi, Quetta, and Hyderabad.
The minister promised that all of the country will have normal energy by tonight but cautioned that the restoration procedure might take some time.
The reconnection team, the repair team, and the investigation team were the three teams he mentioned were working on the power outage scenario.
He maintained that the inquiry team has been given four days to submit a report regarding details of the cause of the blackout. “Once this is brought to light necessary action will be taken,” said Dastgir.
Dastgir pointed out that the appropriate authorities acted quickly to deal with the problem in its early phases, “isolating” Karachi early on and minimising the damage.
“The outage began at 9:16am and Karachi’s electrical system was isolated by 9:35am,” he added. He explained that by “isolate”, he meant that the “1,000MW that we provide to Karachi daily, was cut”. However, he stated that K-Electric’s system was independently operational and was supplying electricity to parts of the metropolis.
He claimed that because to the swift national response, the northern region of the country was “kept safe” from the blackout.
Power outages were recorded earlier in the day in Karachi and other southern regions of the nation.
Through its official Twitter account, the Ministry of Energy announced the news and said that the nation’s energy transmission infrastructure experienced “an unintended fault.”
