KARACHI: Orange Line Bus Rapid Transport (BRT) project will open to the general public on Saturday (tomorrow).

The Sindh government renamed the Orange Line BRT project as the Abdul Sattar Edhi Line in May in honour of the late philanthropist.

The public operations of Karachi’s Abdul Sattar Edhi BRT will begin tomorrow, according to announcement from Sindh Information and Transport Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon. He continued by saying that the Orange Line BRT was an initiative of the Sindh government for the citizens of Karachi.

According to the provincial minister, the everyday benefits of the public transportation initiative would be felt by thousands of commuters.

On September 3, Memon reported that a trial run of Orange Line buses between Orangi Town and the North Nazimabad Edhi Green Line station had begun, with free service provided to customers.

The 3.88-kilometer-long Orange Line corridor connects Orangi Town with the Board Office intersection. It has five terminals and can accommodate 30 buses at its depot. It is projected to get 50,000 passengers each day.

Syed Qaim Ali Shah, a former chief minister of Sindh, inaugurated the project in June 2016 to help 50,000 residents of Orangi Town. Since the project’s inception in 2016, it was anticipated that it would be finished within a year.

ORANGE LINE KARACHI ROUTE

The Abdul Sattar Edhi Line goes through the centre of Orangi Town in Karachi, from AO Chowk in Nazimabad to Nishan-e-Haider Chowk. There will be four stations along the 3.9 kilometre circuit, each built at a distance of 1 kilometre. The Orange Line track is a component of a massive BRT system that, according to its master design, will span over 150 kilometres throughout Karachi.
