The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) said on Sunday that Karachi residents experienced the coldest dawn of the year when the temperature dipped to 6 °C.
The PMD reported that Karachi’s minimum temperature was 6 °C and that the air’s relative humidity was 50%. However, according to meteorology expert Jawad Memon, the city’s northern regions experienced a 4.5°C dip in temperature Friday night.
The lowest temperature ever recorded in the city of lights was 4.3°C this morning at Jinnah Terminal, according to the weather service.
At the PAF Faisal base, it was 8.5°C, at the Masroor base, it was 7.5°C, and at night it was 4.5°C in the northern section of the city.
According to PMD, the next 24 hours will be dry and cold with northeasterly winds gusting between 10 and 12 km/h. Jawad Memon, a meteorological analyst, predicted that the extreme cold will last until January 16.
The PMD reported last week that a westerly system that reached the province through Balochistan is causing a period of chilly weather in Sindh.
According to PMD’s weekly weather outlook, the majority of the nation could expect chilly, dry weather this week, with fog and snowfall in some locations.
The outlook stated, “Mainly cold and dry weather is expected in most parts of the country, while very cold in upper parts and north Balochistan. Frost is likely in the Pothohar region, Kashmir and upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa during morning hours. Foggy condition is likely in upper Sindh, Punjab and plain areas of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.”
The Met Department had previously predicted chilly, dry weather across the majority of the nation as well as cloudy conditions in the western and higher districts.
The PMD said that although snowfall has stopped in Murree, the weather was still rough. The residents of the hill station, a popular winter tourist destination, experienced inconvenience as a result of the water freezing inside the pipelines.
The M2 Motorway in Punjab was shut down for traffic from Lahore to Khanqah Dogran as the fog continued to cover the province’s several cities. Traffic on M11 from Lahore to Sambaryal and M11 from Faizpur to Jaranwala was shut down by the highway police.
