COMEDIAN At the age of 72, Judy Tenuta passed away in her California home.
The figures “The Love Goddess” and “Aphrodite of the Accordion,” created by Tenuta, were well-known.
According to publicist Roger Neal, Tenuta lost her battle with stage 4 ovarian cancer.
She passed away on Thursday at her house in Studio City.
“She was a very funny, amazing performer,” Neal told the AP, saying it was always a “happy time to be around her.”
Neal also told the outlet that Tenuta was born in 1949, not in 1965 as she often claimed.
“She was old school so she would never tell her real age but now that she’s gone we can tell her real age,” he added.
In her very first solo performance, Tenuta dressed as the Virgin Mary, eventually developing that character into the “Love Goddess.”
Tenuta built her career in the 1980s, touring with George Carlin.
In 1987, she gained national attention after appearing in an HBO special alongside Ellen DeGeneres, Paula Poundstone, and Rita Rudner called “On Location: Women of the Night.”
The next year’s “Tenuta won the title of best female comedian club performer during the “American Comedy Awards” TV special.
Tenuta frequently made an appearance on game shows, late-night programmes, and radio programmes.
Additionally, she has had appearances on “Material Girls,” “General Hospital,” “Space Ghost Coast to Coast,” and “The Weird Al Show.””
Tenuta created a number of characters throughout the course of her career, including “The Petite Flower,” “Fashion-Plate Saint,” “Queen of Candy-Pants,” “Princess of Panty Shields,” “Empress of Elvis Impersonators,” and “Buffer of Foreheads.”
