Judge Tanya Chutkan, who is in charge of former president Donald Trump’s January 6 case in Washington, DC, has been charged with deliberately setting the start of his trial for March 4, 2023—a day before Super Tuesday.
The day of the US presidential primary election is known as Super Tuesday. It usually occurs in February or March, when the majority of U.S. states hold their primary and caucus elections. On Super Tuesday, more than any other day, contestants have the opportunity to win roughly one-third of all the delegates to the presidential nominating conventions.
Since March 5 falls on a Super Tuesday in 2023, Trump’s trial will begin in the midst of the Republican primary season. His lawyers asked Judge Tanya Chutkan for a start date of 2026, but she denied their request. She gave the defense not having much time to prepare as her justification. Regardless of his schedule, Mr. Trump will have to make the trial date work, according to Chutkan. “The proposed defense date of April 2026 is far in excess of what is required.”
Conservatives are now accusing the Jamaican-born judge on social media of choosing that date on purpose.

Three people tweeted, “MARCH 4?! A DAY PRIOR TO Super Tuesday? Their brazen attempts to sway the outcome of the 2024 presidential election are revolting. Judge Chutkan ought to be removed from the bench and put forth a bid for DNC Chair. A fourth stated, “Chutkan officially sets March 4th, 2020 as the date for Trump’s trial.” prior to Super Tuesday. Election interference is the entire situation.
