Social media users saw a video from the Raiders with the caption “New number, same colors.” Jacobs can be seen admiring his new jersey with his new number in the brief clip before trying on his helmet.
Jacobs arrived back at the Raiders’ practice facility and declared himself eager to “get to work.”
Josh Jacobs of the Las Vegas Raiders changed his jersey number for what reason?
Jacobs changed his jersey number from 28 to 8 for unknown reasons, but it is assumed that it is a nod to his time spent playing for the University of Alabama.
After a contract standoff with the team, Jacobs made his return. Prior to the deadline for franchise-tagged players to sign extensions, he and his team were unable to come to an agreement on a contract extension. Additionally, he was absent for most of training camp and preseason. He was given a $10.1 million offer in June, which he rejected, prior to the standoff. This came about after the running back’s fifth-year option was declined by the Raiders in April 2022.
His 2022 rushing statistics included 1,653 yards and 12 touchdowns. He was also selected for the Pro Bowl twice, and last year, he made the first team of All-Pros. He believed he deserved more as a result.
Jacobs and his team have finally come to an agreement, and in 2023, Jacobs will play for the Raiders. Jacobs’ readiness for the Raiders’ Week 1 game against the Broncos is unknown.
