Josep Maria Fuste, a BARCELONA great, passed away at the age of 82, the club said.
Between 1958 and 1972, Fuste played over 400 times for the Catalan team, including during his stint at their academy. He also served as captain of his youth team.
After hearing the tragic news, Barca posted an homage to their iconic former captain on Twitter.
Jose Maria Fuste, a player for Barca from 1962 to 1972, during which time he played 406 games and scored 117 goals, passed away, according to what was said.
Fans of Barcelona won’t soon forget you. Peace be with you.
He earned three winners’ medals in the Copa del Rey during his twelve years with Barcelona.
Because of his lightning-quick reflexes and his birthplace, he earned the nickname “the Linyola hare”.
Following loan stints at Osasuna, Fuste joined Barca in the 1960s and quickly rose to prominence.
He was referred to as a “great supporter of improvisational and spectacular football” on the LaLiga giants’ website.
They praised his shooting, crossing, and dribbling skills as well as his speed and “explosive” body.

Fuste played for Spain in both the 1964 and 1966 World Cups, scoring against West Germany in the later tournament and contributing to their win in the former.
He spent one season with Hercules after leaving Barcelona in 1972 before hanging up his boots.
He transitioned into a new position as the director of Barcelona’s ex-players association after retiring from playing.
He joined the board as a consultant in 2010, albeit the epidemic reduced the scope of his responsibilities.
Like the majority of Cules, Fuste was a huge fan of Lionel Messi.
In 2019 he told Radio Marca: “I’ve not seen anyone better than Messi.
“I’ve always thought that Pele and [Alfredo] Di Stefano set the benchmark, but I think Messi is ahead of those two.”
