According to reports, the oldest man in the world passed away in Brazil at the age of 127. The alleged August 4, 1895 birthdate of Jose Paulino Gomes is left behind by seven children, 25 grandchildren, 42 great-grandchildren, and 11 great-great-grandchildren.
On July 28, he passed away in his Minas Gerais, Brazil, home. He reportedly attributed his lengthy life to taking “a little drink.”
According to local records, Jose was born before Queen Victoria passed away, the Wright brothers made their historic flight, and X-rays were discovered.
Jose got married in 1917 at the age of 22, claims Cartorio Silva, the sole registry office in his hometown of Pedra Bonita.
Legal expert Willyan Jose Rodrigues de Souza stated, “It is assumed that he was born before 1900.
Jose would have been the oldest person ever known if this were the case.
Maria Branyas Morera, a Spanish woman who is 115 years old, currently holds the title of official record, according to Guinness World Records.
According to Jose’s granddaughter Eliane Ferreira, “people are usually registered here in the country when they are older.”
Several cases have incomplete or inaccurate documentation. But his paperwork made him appear younger than he actually was.
“There is a 98-year-old woman nearby. She claims to have known him as a young boy.
“At that point, we were curious to find out his age, so we looked up the registry office to see what was accurate.
“He was definitely older than 100, at least 110. Now, we need to know how the death certificate will reflect it.”
Eliane described her grandfather as “very simple, very humble” in her words.
“What made him special was that he preferred rural, natural items over anything that had been industrialized.
He reared pigs and chickens. All of his food had to be raised or grown locally. And he enjoyed drinking occasionally.
Jose’s granddaughter Fabiola Oliveira revealed that he used to ride horses up until four years ago.
“He stopped riding horses four years ago. He was in bed for about a month, she said.
For all of us, he will leave behind a wealth of tales and memories. Jose’s family claims that multiple organ failure—likely brought on by his advanced age—was the cause of his death.
On July 29, he was buried at the Corrego dos Fialhos Cemetery in Pedra Bonita. If Guinness World Records is looking into the claims is unclear.
