Following his detention for an alleged nightclub attack, DANI Alves’ wife reportedly filed for divorce.

After the footballer apparently claimed he had consensual sex with his accuser after originally denying knowing her, Joana Sanz, 29, reportedly deleted the majority of the images of them together from her Instagram.

After Alves, 39, was taken into jail in Barcelona just days after her mother passed away, the Spanish beauty spoke of her sadness.

But according to Spanish TV programme Telecinco show El Programme de Ana Rosa, Joana has now informed her attorneys that she wants a divorce after her husband allegedly refused to meet her in the jail where he is being kept on remand.

The stunning Tenerife native, who wed former Barcelona defender Alves in 2017, has not yet issued an official statement over the shocking information.

Following her initial display of support for the Brazilian international, Joana made the choice to delete the majority of her images with Alves, with the exception of a few connected to advertising efforts.

After being ordered to remain in detention by a judge in Barcelona, Alves was fired by the Mexican team UNAM Pumas.

Alves was detained on January 20 after a 23-year-old lady accused him of assaulting her on December 30 at the city’s posh Sutton venue.

Alves has been incarcerated in a jail outside the city since a judge decided he should be held in custody.

Alves, who spent two stints at Barcelona before joining UNAM Pumas in Mexico last year, insisted prior to his arrest that he had never met the woman who had been his accuser.

The footballer apparently admitted to the magistrate that he had consensual intercourse with the woman during a court proceeding.

Joana claimed that after the footballer’s imprisonment, she had lost the “two pillars in my life.”

But she uploaded a picture of them holding hands with the caption “Together” in English hours before Alves was placed under house arrest.

There are two sorts of divorce in Spain: contentious and agreed.

A divorce that both spouses have mutually agreed upon is known as an agreed divorce.

However, a contested divorce is one when just one party files without the other’s permission.

In an appearance with a Spanish TV programme, the Brazilian-born businesswoman insisted she thought the father of their two children was innocent and said: “Dani would never ever ever do anything.

“I say this because I’ve known him for 22 years and was married to him for 10.

“This has been a shock for me and for my children.”

It then became clear that the woman had claimed to have been raped in a bathroom and given a face-slap.

However, they have not confirmed the specifics of the charges against Alves, who is under investigation on suspicion of sexually abusing a woman.

On Monday, his new attorney filed a bail application, stating the football player is not a flight risk.

He consented that his client’s bail conditions would include having his passport taken away so he cannot leave Spain and wearing an electronic tag if necessary.

It is anticipated that a decision will be made sometime next month about his release while a criminal investigation is still ongoing.

The bail request from Alves’ attorney is anticipated to be rejected by both the state prosecutor and an attorney representing Alves’ accuser.

The court that is not now looking into the football player would make the final determination regarding a conditional release.

Investigations like the one the investigating magistrate is currently conducting can sometimes take months or even years to complete, especially when suspects are out on bail.

Although the typical maximum sentence in Spain is two years, people who are the subject of an official inquiry may be detained without being charged for up to four years.
