F1 CLASSIC Jessica Michibata, a model and ex-wife of Jenson Button, was detained on MDMA possession charges.
Japanese police detained the model after discovering the psychoactive substance in a package delivered to her Tokyo hotel room.
According to the Metropolitan Police Department, Michibata, 38, is being detained on suspicion of breaking the law regarding special measures for dealing with drugs. (MPD).
She disputes the charges.
When the package arrived in Japan from abroad, customs officials allegedly found the drug inside.
Police followed the address to a hotel and a room where the model and another guest were lodging.
According to Mainichi Shimbun and The Japan Times, the other person has been referred to as a “acquaintance” of Michibata.
Michibata, a mother of one, was born in Japan but currently resides in the United States.
“We apologise to everyone for any concern the reports of Jessica Michibata, which belongs to our company, have caused,” her modeling agency Revive said in a statement.
“Since the incident is under investigation by the police, we will refrain from disclosing any further details.”
F1 champion Button, who won the championship in 2009 with Brawn GP, dated Jessica for a significant amount of time from 2008 to 2015.
They were wed in December 2014, but they amicably divorced in 2015.
