Nearly eight months after her husband went missing, an Illinois woman discovered his body inside their home.
On the afternoon of April 27, Jennifer Maedge reported her husband, Richard Maedge, missing.
Police were called, and they searched the house and began an investigation into his whereabouts.
Richard Maege, it turned out, did not go anywhere, according to Fox 59 on Monday.
Jennifer went to retrieve some Christmas decorations on December 11 and was astounded to discover her husband’s body in the closet where they were kept.
According to a coroner’s report released Thursday, his death was ruled a suicide.
“I decided to put the Christmas tree up, and I was looking for a tote of Christmas ornaments, and that’s when I discovered him,” Jennifer told The St. Louis Post-Dispatch in December. “He had committed suicide.”
The house was described as a “hoarder home” by police, making it difficult to conduct a thorough search for the missing man. According to Jennifer, the odour was never overpowering.
