A SINGLE mother of three died “suddenly and unexpectedly” before she had a chance to embrace her new child.
On November 24, Jayne Cox, 33, was due to give birth via cesarean section.
However, two weeks after her waters ruptured at home on November 8, her operation was pushed ahead.
The mother, who lived in Little Plumstead, Norfolk, never came home after visiting the hospital for her C-section with a close relative.
She had already given birth to two boys, Glen, age four, and Anthony, age eleven, but she was unable to cradle her third child.
Maggie, Jayne’s mother, and Glen Gibson, her stepfather, are now raising her three children.
A ‘sudden and unexpected’ death
Glen stated to Eastern Daily Express that Jayne’s family is still in the dark about what caused her to pass away.
“We are waiting to hear from the hospital,” he stated.
Jayne had “been poorly the day before” her waters ruptured, he continued, and “had had some breathing problems.”
According to the NHS, one in four mothers in the UK give delivery by C-section, which entails making a cut to the baby’s lower abdomen and womb.
In general, people think the surgery is extremely safe. While there are significant risks for soon-to-be mothers, fatalities are uncommon.
According to estimates from the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists (ACOG), there are four maternal deaths for every 100,000 spontaneous deliveries, whereas there are 13 for every 100,000 C-section births.
It did point out that women who undergo C-sections are already more likely to experience difficulties.
On behalf of the family, Len paid tribute to his stepdaughter, characterizing her as “a popular person with lots of friends, who was well-liked”.
“She was an all-round type of person who was very hands-on and enjoyed keeping busy,” Glen said.
He claimed she loved taking on new challenges and getting her hands dirty, and that she had a flair with motorbikes, scooters, and cars.
Following the mother’s death, the family launched a GoFundMe page to assist pay for her funeral and buy Christmas presents for her three youngsters.
“Jayne went into hospital for a C-section to deliver her newest baby boy, but very sadly she passed away suddenly and unexpectedly before even getting to hold her baby boy,” reads the statement, which was organized by family friend Kathleen Conrad.
“As you can imagine, the whole family is distraught, her mum absolutely broken and her sons – I can’t even imagine.
“They’re without their mummy, their whole world.”
In an update to the page following a first round of donations, Kathleen thanked people on behalf of Jayne’s family.
“Maggie and her husband and all the family are beyond heartbroken,” she wrote.
“Maggie yearns for her daughter each and every second of every day.
“None of this can bring Jayne home to her little boys and her mum and family but this has eased the financial worry that comes at this devastating time.”
So far, £6,400 has been donated.
