In the collision that claimed the lives of UGA recruiter Chandler LeCroy and Bulldog lineman Devin Willock, Athens-Clarke County Police have charged Jalen Carter with racing and reckless driving. LeCroy, the driver of the SUV that crashed on Barnett Shoals Road early on January 15, was reportedly drunk at the time of the collision, according to police who also released toxicology results on him. Prior to the collision, her car and Carter’s were travelling at speeds of up to 100 miles per hour, according to the police.
Jalen Carter, 21, has arrest warrants for Reckless Driving and Racing as a result of the ongoing investigation into the fatal collision that happened on January 15, 2023, in the 900 block of Barnett Shoals Road.
The investigation revealed that Jalen Carter, who was driving a 2021 Jeep Trackhawk, and Chandler LeCroy, who was driving a 2021 Ford Expedition, were driving their cars in a way that was resembling racing not long after they had left the vicinity of downtown Athens at around 2:30 AM. The evidence showed that, in an apparent effort to outdistance one another, both vehicles made lane changes, drove in the centre turn lane, travelled in opposite directions, passed other vehicles, and drove at high speeds. Evidence suggested that the Expedition was moving at about 104 miles per hour just before the crash.
According to the toxicology report, LeCroy had a blood alcohol content of.197 at the time of the collision. Investigators came to the conclusion that the crash’s main contributing factors were speed, racing, drunk driving, and alcohol impairment.
