According to an inquiry, a British amateur climber who fell 600 feet down a mountain died from “severe crush injuries.”
On February 4, 23-year-old Jack Carne was climbing in Snowdonia, Wales, with two friends.
When he got to that point, he believed the rock he was about to grip onto was secure, but it wasn’t.
He died after plunging 600 feet to his death after the rock broke way.
When his buddies realised that his backpack was 160 feet below them, they searched for him. However, Ogwen Valley Peak Rescue searchers found the tragic finding of Jack’s death 33 feet below that on the mountain Glyder Gawr.
Coroner John Gittins said: “He reached for a rock that he thought was solid. Unfortunately, it wasn’t and it gave way, causing him to fall.”
The official cause of death given by Pathologist Dr Mohammed Aslan was death by “multiple crush injuries,” and a full inquest will will take place later this year.
A GoFundMe fundraiser has been launched to cover the costs of his funeral.
So far, £11,595 has been raised of the £15k total.
