The dates for the public sector employees’ holiday for the Islamic New Year have been made official by the Sharjah government.
According to a statement from the Department of Human Resources of the Sharjah Government, the Hijri New Year holiday will take place on Thursday, July 20.
Government agencies in Sharjah switched to a three-day weekend in January 2022, giving employees Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays off, to give workers an extended weekend.
Employees will take a longer vacation from July 20 to July 23 due to the Hijri New Year holiday falling on a Thursday. On Monday, July 24, the regular working hours will start up again.
Prior to the 1445 Hijri holiday, the Federal Authority for Government Human Resources (FAHR) circulated a notice to all federal departments and ministries in the UAE. This holiday falls on the first day of Muharram in the Islamic calendar.
Additionally, federal employees will not be in the office on Friday, July 21, in order to observe the Hijri New Year.
The choice is in accordance with the Cabinet Resolution on national holidays for the public and private sectors for 2023.
